I was looking at number of recopies, and I’ve seen ‘bulk’ appear a lot and I don’t know what it means, for example- in one recipe under ingredients it says, 1/2 pound bulk Italian sausage. What does the bulk part mean?

Sausage described as bulk means that it has not been made into links or patties and is just sold loose, like hamburger..

The kind not sold in links. Like you would see hamburger packaged.

bulk sausage means that its not in link form. Its just the inner meat of the sausage. You can buy the links and just remove the meat if you want.

bulk intailian sausage would be just the sausage meet, not the sausage in link form. It’s hard to find like that so you would purchase sausage links and remove the meat from the casings. Bulk anything in cooking means that it is not in a pre-measured/molded/fixed form.
