I have a bunch of italian sausage but I’ve never cooked with it before. Does anybody know a good recipe that calls for italian sausage? I’d prefer not a soup since it’s so hot outside. I’m also not a big fan of pasta, but my husband loves it. So I guess a pasta recipe would be okay (but definitely not necessary). If you have any ideas, please let me know. Thanks!

cook them by placing them in a frying pan with the water filled to have the sausage, for about 10 minutes, then fry them for about 3 minutes more, mix them with Pasta or anything, I love Italian Sausages more than life, but you gotta choose the right ones

I love Italian sausage with caramelized onions:

Follow the directions for cooking the sausage. But don’t let them cook fully through. Maybe take them out two minutes prior to being done. Set aside

Cut onions into thin slices (fill up the skillet becuase they melt down and look like less) saute them until they are transluecent and then add a few spoonfuls of brown sugar. I also like to add just a little bit of sweet red wine but that is up to you)

Once the onions are really soft and stringy almost like noodles add the sausage back in and cook everything until the sausage is done!

We sometimes buy hot dog buns to put the sausage in and add the onions on top!

    enjoy!

You could do sausage and peppers – serve with bread or pasta

    Ingredients

    2 Tbs olive oil
    10-12 mild (sweet) Italian sausages
    1 onion, frenched*
    3 cloves garlic, minced
1 red bell pepper, seeded and sliced into 1" strips
2 green bell peppers, seeded and sliced into 1" strips
    14 ounce can diced tomatos
    1/2 cup dry white wine
    1 tsp fennel seeds
    1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper, freshly ground
    Directions

In a large skillet or pot heat the olive oil over medium heat.
Cook the sausage for 1-2 minutes on each side.
Add the onions, garlic, peppers, tomatoes, wine, fennel seeds, salt, and pepper.
Cover and cook over low heat for 30-35 minutes.

Reheat and serve with crusty bread or rolls or over pasta.

Cut the casing end and squirt the meat out into little meatballs.

Grill them on the grill like a brat…. Served with a little Prego and you have one hell of an easy sandwich if served on Italian/French bread cut like a hot dog bun.

put them in a pan with 1/2 water cover let cook on med for 10 Min’s,water is absorbed. Once you see they are cooked with the water, Fry them in the pan with Olive oil. Throw in some sliced onions & bell peppers, let cook for a couple mins. Put on a bun with mayo..& or mustard or whatever you like..yummy, makes me hungry! Also you can cut them thick, keeping them round toss in your spagette sauce.

You can bake them with onions and peppers, then serve them on a hoagie roll with tomato sauce and melted mozarella to make a fantastic sausage and peppers sandwich. Or you can fry them up with the onions and peppers and do the same thing.

You can also pull the meat out of the casings and mix it in with any other ground meat to make any meatloaf recipe. The sausage spices will give your meatloaf a fantastic flavor. You can do the same thing with hamburgers.

You can also take the meat out of the casings and crumble it into a frying pan, then when it’s cooked, drain off the juices and scramble it up with some eggs or put it in an omelet.

You can also fry it up either out of the casings or cut into rounds and throw it into some chili.

And you can cook it in water for a few minutes, finish it in a frying pan and serve it like a hot dog.

We always use sauage in spagetti. Make it in the crock pot and slow cook it all day with mushrooms, onions, italian sasage, & tomato sauce. Serve with garlic bread or a salad.

    4 cloves garlic, minced
    1/4 c. olive oil
    2 (15oz) cans whole tomatoes
1 (15oz) can italian diced tomatoes
    2 (8oz) cans tomato sauce
    2 (4oz) cans tomato paste
    1 tsp dried oregano
    1 tsp dried basil
1 tsp salt (or to taste)
1/2 tsp ground black pepper (or to taste)
    1 bay leaf

    Cheese Filling:

1- 16 oz container ricotta cheese
    1 egg
1 10-oz package frozen spinch, cooked and drained well
    1/4 tsp pepper
    1/2 tsp dried basil
    1/4 cup Parmesan cheese
    topping:
    3 cups mozzarella cheese
    1/4 cup Parmesan cheese
cooked lasagna noodles, enough to make 3 layers in 13 x 9 baking dish.

The sauce can be made in a Crock-pot.

    In Crock-pot:

On high setting, add olive oil, onions, and garlic and let simmer until onions are clear.
Meanwhile, cook Italian sausage in separate pan on stove and cut into bite size pieces. Once onions are cooked, add tomatoes, tomato paste and sauce, oregano, basil, salt, pepper, bay leaf and cooked Italian sausage. Stir until mixed.

Cook on high in crock pot for 4-6 hrs. or until sauce is dark red rich tasting. Stir frequently during cooking.

    To prepare filling:

Add ricotta cheese, cooked drained spinach, egg, basil, pepper, and Parmesan cheese in bowl and mix well.

    When ready to prepare lasagna:

Add 1/4 to 1/2 cup of sauce in bottom of 13 X 9 baking dish. Cover with noodles. Cover noodles with 1/2 of the filling mixture and top with 1 cup of mozzarella cheese.
Add 1 cup sauce. Repeat one more time. Add another layer of noodles and top with 1/4 cup extra Parmasan cheese and the remaining mozzerella cheese.

Bake at 350 degrees covered with foil for 40 minutes.

Uncover and bake an additional 10-15 minutes or until cheese is lighly brown.

    Delicious!
