Could you give me the best recipe for tomato pasta sauce? And maybe for the pasta dough as well?
I just went to Italy and I fell in love with the delicious, simple pasta, and I would really love to make my own.

The following is based on a sauce from Essentials of Classic Italian Cooking by Marcella Hazan:
1/4 c. extra virgin olive oil
1/2 c. chopped onion
2 lb fresh tomatoes or canned Italian plum tomatoes, drained and cut up
5 cloves garlic, peeled
1/8 t. crushed red pepper
pepper
salt
1 lg bunch basil leaves, rinsed, dried and gently torn up
Heat oil in large saucepan, add onions and saute until soft and golden. Add tomatoes, garlic, red pepper, and a couple of grinds of black pepper. Cook 20-25 minutes over medium high heat, or until oil separates from tomatoes. Add salt as needed. Take off heat and add torn basil leaves. Serve over pasta.
