and what brand name is it called at the store? Also do you find it yields better results in flakier crust for pie and cookies"sugar cookies" in particular? I have been told this yields for melt in your mouth light sugar cookies. Do you think it is better than butter or shortening? I am looking for a melt in your mouth, airy sugar cookie with a creamy buttery frosting. And an extremely flaky sweetened pie crust key ingredient.

Crisco is not Lard. Lard is rendered animal fat, Crisco is vegetable shortening. Don’t know what you’re talking about don’t give advice.
Yes I get better pie crust with Lard. I have never seen it refrigerated though. Always on the same aisle as oil and shortening. Actually, I have seen it packaged like sticks of butter,.just not since leaving Ca.
It may be labeled as Manteca. That is Spanish for Lard. I don’t have any right now so I don’t know a brand name. Sorry. But it should not be hard to find. I really don’t think it is nay more healthy or unhealthy than shortening. Yes it has cholesterol. But apparently many people are more worried about Trans-Fats in Hydrogenated vegetable shortening.
French Fries are best in Lard too.
Edit: my Wal Mart has the large buckets and 1 Lb. pkg.

I can find lard at the end of the meat section at Safeway, or any Mexican grocery. Lard makes great pie crusts. But for cookies I would go with refrigerated butter flavor Crisco sticks. Unless the cookie recipe already includes more butter, then that would be over-kill. And lard is actually a bit healthier than butter due to trans-fats.

Butter flavored crisco is much better. Lard will leave a taste in your mouth and is even less healthy for you

Crisco is NOT lard, it is vegetable shortening. Lard is pig fat, and is the best thing for TENDER and FLAKY baked goods.
Look for it in the meat refrigerator. If not there, it may be in the refrigerated section near the butter. Ask a store worker.
Sorry, I don’t know any brand names.

Crisco is lard. Your store may carry their own brand as well to save some change. Crisco makes convenient sticks as well.
When making cookies, I prefer butter. They taste so much better, but that’s just me. Butter will yield a more crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside cookie. Lard will help the cookie to spread a bit more and will be all around chewier cookie.
Happy Baking! ♥
When making a pie crust, use butter for sure!
EDIT: "Shortening is basically just fat or lard from an animal or vegetable". This is STRAIGHT from wikipedia. Look it up!
I should also know since I am a baker. I use the stuff
Also, SUET is found in the meat counter of the grocery store. Lard is not. Are you getting confused?
People need to get educated before knocking someone down!!

You can find lard at the grocery store, in the refrigerated section of the meat case. Brands will vary. If you can’t find it, ask the person at the meat counter where it is.

walmart grocery stores sell it in the same aisle as the cooking oil, near the bottom. it comes in large bucket type containers. if you only need a small amount go with crisco.
