I’m going to be honest here and I would appreciate any help you can provide. Please don’t criticize me, I know I’m obese and need to eat right and exercise but you saying mean things isn’t going to encourage that! WITH THAT SAID…

I’m 22 years old woman 240lbs. I’m a grad student and really wish I had time to cook healthy all the time but 4 days out of the week I get up at 6 in the morning and don’t get home till after 10 pm after classes. I have never been skinny… In high school I was like 170 which if I could back to there I would be plenty happy, I’m not going to be a model… hell I don’t want to be.

I have tried weight watchers (for about 3 months) and it did help me lose about 7 lbs, but It was just too much to planing and since I really do have to eat out for lunch and dinner 4 our of 7 days it was really difficult to find points for things and when I did I felt like I was locked into eating only things I could calculate/ find calories and fat and fiber for, which around a college campus isn’t exactly information posed everywhere. THE GOOD NEWS…. I’m not picky and I don’t gorge on food. I actually don’t like mcdonalds or BK… I love veggies and salads, I hate creamy dressing or anything that is drenched in oil. THE BAD NEWS… I love sweets and rice. These are the two I can’t give up… My husband is Brazilian and rice is here to stay, and I really like sweets….

EXERCISE… The truth is I dread it. I’ve done a lot of soul searching to figure out what type of exercises I would like and the there are three things that make me dread it. (in no particular order)

1. I am overweight and very self conscious about it. The idea of exercising puts me in a position where I know I will be judged. For example if someone walks up to you at work they maybe thinking you’re fat, or they could be thinking about the weather… If I walk into a gym everyone who looks at me will be thinking I’m there to loose weight. To rectify this I bought a exercise bike… in short it didn’t work… for the other reasons I’m about to list.

2. Sweat and body parts rubbing together. Sounds gross but as overweight people know fat is there and chafing is uncomfortable. I hate being dirty and sweaty, it is horrible and even though i know I would take a shower afterward I just hate it.

3. High impact. I don’t like bouncing or running. fat bouncing around hurts and running after a while hurts my knees. I want to do something cardio but I’m so out of shape that I feel my heart is going to come out of my chest when I do.

One solution to the 2nd and 3rd things would be water aerobics (this isn’t technically cardio but you have to start somewhere). However I don’t get in bathing suits… I know how to swim and think I would really like it. Ideally I could have a pool in my yard but thats not going to work, I’m a student. I have gotten the locations and schedules for water aerobics but I can’t bring myself to actually go because of reason number 1.

Alright… Again its a lot and I know it sounds winny but everyone has their problems and this is one of mine and I am asking for help. I really don’t need people to judge me. If you aren’t trying to help just move right along to another question.

Any advice and help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks

I found this on this website. There are more tips and info.

    1. If what you are eating has less than 1 carb, count it as 1 carb just to be sure.

    2. Totally avoid caffine at least for the first two weeks on the program.

    3. Drink a MINIMUM of 8 glasses of plain water or seltzer daily.

    4. Don’t weigh yourself more than once a week

    5. Take starting measurements as well as weight – sometimes you’ll lose inches before pounds

    6. Avoid any type of "low carb" sweetener for the first two weeks

    7. Don’t compare your loss to someone else’s – this is a YMMV thing (your milage may vary)

    8. Stalls are common around the third week so don’t panic

    9. If you follow your plan to the T and don’t lose, consider Candida as a possibility and avoid vinegar, cheese, mushrooms and any other fermented food

    10. Have bloodwork done before starting so you have a comparison

    11. Cholesterol can be elevated in the first few weeks til your body adjusts – make sure your doctor knows that you’re doing low carb and when you started

    12. Don’t blame the diet if you don’t read your plan book — blame the diet if you don’t read the labels — Don’t blame the diet if you don’t follow the diet

Yeah we all know that we are supposed to cut calories, do cardio and hit the gym to get in shape, but there are lots of little tricks you shouldn’t ignore if you want to slim down quick.

Take The Stairs Taking the stairs instead of the elevator every day can help you burn some extra calories. It may not seem like a lot but it adds up. Over a period of a year, taking the stairs can burn off an extra five lbs. of fat.

Body weight is a balance between intake and the calories we burn by energy. You eat more and work less for that the excess calories are converted to fat.

Excess weight or obesity is by far the number one health concern in this country.
Sixty percent of Americans are either overweight or obese, including over 20 percent of teenagers.
All are at risk for serious physical and emotional health problems.
