Okay… i know it sounds odd, but anything (like oil and butter) that i can put on the light bulb so whoever it is stops unscrewing my light bulb but won’t catch on fire ![]()
It’s a light sensor that comes on at night for 5 seconds whenever someone is close to my door.
It’s only on for 5 seconds, and my door is at the back of the house and it rarely comes on (I rarely have visitors that would come or go late at night) but it’s just a safety precatuion.
I’ve literally had weirdos walk up to my door at night then run off when the light comes on.

wipe down the bulb, let someone unscrew it again, have it dusted for prints, definitely notify police now, i agree with the weirdo possibility, if its not the easily print checked neighbors, you have a real threat. change your patterns and carry a way to defend yourself. install a second motion light higher out of reach, and turn the timer way past 5 seconds. home stores even have wireless sensor sets with an audible alarm you can put inside to know when the culprit is there. also sporting good stores have motion activated cameras. or get a couple friends and have a bulb watching party as you take turns secretly watching for the perp.

Why not try to figure out why it is happening? It is likely that the light is annoying a neighbor,so try to figure out some sort of "shade" to control where the lights lite is going. How about tin foil?

Nothing you can put on the bulb safely that will last, but there is an alternative. There are Tamper-proof Outdoor Sensor Lights available. It may just be your neighbor is bothered by the light, if so they should come forward and tell you so, tampering with your security light is a crime in most states. But just as likely and more DANGEROUSLY, it could be a "weirdo" backing the bulb out so they can go undetected. I would perhaps check with your neighbors (not likely to get an honest answer if they are being this sneaky but worth a shot) and then invest in a tamper-proof version. They are usually referred to as Security lighting fixtures I’ll leave you a link to some under $100 I have no affiliation with the company.

Your best option is to get a cheap usb camera and a laptop. use the program below to turn that into a motion activated security camera, get a picture of the vandals, and turn that in to the police .

I think I’d try installing a halogen light fixture/motion detector, because it would take some effort and time to get at the bulb. Also if you don’t want to spend a lot of money you can put up a dummy security camera, several places offer them. If you still have problems you definitely need to get the police involved.
