I am considering to take a live in position to do some care-giving of an elderly woman and light house cleaning and cooking. The person I will work for really needs help. She is a sociology professor, has cancer and lives with her mom, whom needs help as well. I have agreed to help her out in exchange for room and board. However, I am not sure what would be a fair for me to ask in terms of monetary compensation. I am a college student, and making a bit of extra money would help to pay for my gas and travel expenses, car insurance payments (every 3 months), and just little things needed. If you were in my situation, what do you think is a fair amount to ask for? I would appreciate your feedback or suggestions, please no rude comments. I am doing this with the best intention of helping her out and taking care of my basic needs. Thanks
I really appreciate your feedback ![]()

I think it depends on how many hours per week they expect you to work around the house. I would say maybe $10 an hour or $100-$200 per week would be fair if they are not expecting you to be there 24/7. It also depends on the area that you live in- if wages are high or low there etc.

you should be able to call the doctor’s office that the person see’s and see if they have a social worker and they should be able to point you in the right direction to find you a certified nurses aide.
