basically my husbands doctor told him that he should stop eating sugar…and carbs turns into sugar. but everything i cook has high carbs or sugar. and i’m finding it a hassle to make low carb/sugar lebanese meals
with the wara2 3arish ive decided that i could make it with meat and leave the rice out. but what about mograbieh? or mloukheih (maybe just put it over chicken? and forget the rice)…even hummos has high carbs…and bazilla…its bazilla season, and foul season.
please people….how can make my favorite dishes without changing the taste.
i’m having a hard time making a monthly menu for my family ![]()

Hi Angie, i suggest to use basmati brown rice. It tastes better than regular brown rice, & will get used to the taste after all. Make sure that you add more water & cook it longer. You also have another choice, which is the burgul(cracked wheat). As long as he doesn’t eat a big meal of peas or chick peas it will be ok, because those are considerd healthy. Most importantley, skip the white flour, white sugar or white rice. My husband is diabetic & i know how it’s like when it comes to cooking for the family. The other day, i made ka’ak bil tamer with splenda & canola oil & it turned out delicious. I,m sure you will find alternatives to your daily cooking.

It’s true that green peas have carbs, but it has the "good" carbs, as for rice and pasta, if you replace your regular white rice with brown rice and whole wheat pasta it’s ok to eat some of that (ask the doctor abt it).
Like Sam said you should make more loubieh bi zeit and bamia bi zeit (by of course be careful with the amount of zeit you are using).
Also something like stir fried veggies and roasted chicken would be ok.
I hope this site could help you:
