my boyfriend has gained about 30-40lbs since weve been together. i love him and it doesnt matter to me but he is always saying how hes insecure about it and that hes getting fat, but im not seein him doing anything to stop, or lose weight.
Again, i do not care that hes gained some weight but i was wondering if there is still good food out there that is healthy or something i could do to help him cuz he hasnt really started helping himself. and i was thinking if he started seeing a difference in his weight hed do it on his own.
i love cooking so maybe i could start cooking healthier meals. but i dont know any so if you have good healthy recipes send em over.
any ideas? i need some help
thanks for all your suggestions. just to add though, he works about 70-80 hours a week in a non sitting job, and i mostly work nights so if i have a night off is the only time i cook for him, when im working he just snacks throughout the night. and sits around cuz hes been up and running from 6am. maybe some healthy (not very expensive) snacking?

Well first off it is nice that your boyfriends weight is not a major factor in your love for him. However his concern is valid for health reasons. If he is truly bothered by this he needs to take a serious stand and change his diet and activity habits. You as his girl has a big role in this because most likely you dictate his diet as well as what you do as a couple. Your influence will help him achieve his goal to louse the weight he gained. If he refuses to change his habits then he is not serious and needs to stop complaining because it will be his own doing at this point. Be careful he does not project the fault on you buy saying you keep him home or you cook fatty foods. Ultimately it will be his desire to louse weight that will get him there. Good Luck.

well its great you still love your bf nomatter what.. thats real love. but also you shouldnt let him do this to himself. lettinga friend or family member getfat is the same as hurting them. i dont care what you say about it. here are some sample menus.
he should really be eating before he gets hungry… if your intent is to lose fat then you should eat constant small meals. it really depends what type of food you like it seems that you dont have a big appetite so i dont think you should eat more than your body can hold.
heres an example menu:
BREAKFAST:
one sliced banana
one glass orange juice
1 slice of buttered whole grain toast
or….
if youre really hungry..(it happens!!)
english muffin sandwich-
–1 english muffin toasted(dont add butter.. it doesnt taste THAT much better)
–1 egg (just pop it in the microwave until its basically all the way cooked then fry it up on the skillet with some pam for about 3 mins)(tastes great and is healthy+nutritious)
–2slices of ham (not sausage… haha =)
–CHEESE!! yes. cheese.you can eat that stuff.
EARLY SNACK:
Strawberry-Almond Smoothie (Blend 1 c. low-fat vanilla yogurt, 1/4 c. plain soy milk, and 1 c. frozen strawberries with 1 tsp honey and 1 T almonds);
DELICIOUS!!^^
or…
Trail mix! trail mix tends to be expensive, so you can make your own. plus you can add only things you like . but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE leave out the m&m’s! instead add chocolate covered raisins. they are soo much better for you and you are inevitably forcing yourself to eat a raisin everytimeyou have chocolate!
HINT: i know raw almonds to taste 20X better than cooked salted almonds. plus they have tons of amino oil yada yada yada…. haha but eat these int he morning onlyy. they can be slightly heavy.
LUNCH:
pita sandwich: tomato, grilled chicken, shredded spinach, sprinkle cheese on top
or
sushi!! sushi is healthy because since it is raw, you are able to ingest the maximum amount of weight loss promoting nutrients
DINNER:
Grilled chicken breast with mango salsa
(pretty self explanitory)
OR
grilled chicken with broccoli and green beans
(put them all in a skillet and fry them up, then add some orange glaze sauce and soy sauce. not that much calorie intake but also is DELICIOUS.
plus one more option since it IS dinner….
potato, spinach and red bell pepper salad with warm bacon vinaigrette-
1 pound Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled, cut into 3/4-inch pieces
1 red bell pepper
1 bacon slice, chopped
3 tablespoons red wine vinegar
2 tablespoons olive oil (preferably extra-virgin)
1 garlic clove, minced
1 cup thinly sliced celery
2 cups (packed) baby spinach leaves (about 2 1/2 ounces)
PreparationSteam potatoes just until tender, about 7 minutes. Transfer potatoes to large bowl. Char bell pepper over flame or in broiler until blackened on all sides. Enclose in paper bag; let stand 10 minutes. Peel, seed and chop pepper. Transfer to bowl with potatoes.
Sauté bacon in small skillet over medium heat until crisp, about 3 minutes. Using slotted spoon, transfer bacon to paper towel and drain. Whisk vinegar, oil and garlic in small saucepan. Stir over low heat just until warm, about 1 minute. Stir in bacon. Add warm vinaigrette to potato mixture. Mix in celery and spinach. Season to taste with salt and pepper and serve.
cooking gourmet is a way to disgiuse helthy food!!!! i suggest you sign up for a magazine like bon appetit all of their recipes are pretty healthy
PM SNACK:
grapes or celery
when it comes to celery, if you like it, INDULGE. by eating celery you are burning calories because it takes more calories to digest celery than you take in! plus its healthy!
so basically…. any of these menus or something along those lines is great. if you truly dont eat that much, then more power to you! but im just saying, i think you need excersize to lose weight PERIOD. but id this works for you, then you have outsmarted me! just try and stick to raw foods. the have 10 times more nutrients than the cooked stuff and fill you up faster. and please stay away fromt he chips. OH I ALMOST FORGOT….. i am an ice cream fanatic… so you can eat sorbet if you want to! even better.. make it. all you need is some frozen fruit and some juice,. delicious. well i hope i helped and the best of luck to you !
xoxo

Go to FoodNetwork.com
They have a lot of recipes that are healthy. Is he active? Could he get involved in a sports team? Maybe to help motivate him, you both could start jogging together. This is also some great personal time that you would share together.

great idea with the cooking healthier stuff! also suggest the two of you do stuff together. like instead of going to see a movie go ice skating or something that will get him more in the mood to work out. and you can do it with him. great time spent together!

if your boyfriend is willing sugjest taking a walk arond the block or go to a park and do this together, you dont say if you could lose a little weight yourself , but this will help both of you , working together is better than trying by yourself and dont forget sometimes you will gain weight before you lose when starting any activity also check with your doctor to make sure it s ok also as far as cooking healthy just add fruit and vegtables to diet use canola oil for lower cholestrol an d when you just have to have that fried food taste, but best is bake all meat its better than fried

cooking healthier meals is a definite MUST. perhaps join a gym together or do more activities together, eg walks, sports anything to keep you active and burn extra calories.
its hard to get motivated, i know that from my personal experience, but once he is in the right frame of mind and determined to make a change, he will. all you can do is help and support him while he gets to that point.
you can always try and give him a little nudge to do more stuff with you, but don’t push too hard. us men like to dig our heels in when we are
