    - sketch/draw/trace the figures on the thermocol sheet.
    - using a sharp blade [break the blade in half & slice diagonally. you will get a very pointed tip at one end. use this to scour & cut along the lines] or craft knife cut the figures out.
    - use simple poster colors to paint over them.
    - cut rectangles out of cardboard. fold at one end [as in picture frames] & glue with PVA glue behind the figures so that they can stand upright.
    - or if you are using a cardboard base, make slits in the cardboard so that you can fit the base of thermocol figure into it. this will look neater & you can arrange at any angle. only remember to leave some extra thermocol under the feet, which will go into the slits/slots.
    - arrange the figures as desired. paint the base.
