A friend lives in a duplex and smelled lighter fluid very strong the other night. We learned that it may be an indication that meth amphetamines were being cooked.

The smell apparently was gone a couple hours after she left the house and returned later. We are wondering if the neighbors were indeed cooking meth if the smell would have lingered longer or if it still is a possibility that the smell was from cooking meth.

If meth has been cooked in a house it has to be decontaminated by experts. That can mean the whole inside of the house has to be replaced which can cost thousands. If you think or know that has been going on, contact the police. You could be saving the health of anyone else that has to live there.

Call your local police. That type of cooking could blow up a whole neighborhood.

There was an article in our local paper, that said, once that is done in a house, it can never be removed, and makes the house toxic. I would certainly contact the landlord, or if you own the property, and just renting the rest, have it investigated. That alone is grounds for eviction in all leases.
