    Depends on many things.

    But

Follow use before date on the package as a rule. Freez it or store it below 39 degrees F.

But, Best test in the absence of (that use before date) is 3 to 7 day max.

Also, if it smells bad after washing in plain cold water, then it may be bad, dead tissue has its own smell but rotten dead issue smells terrible and different so get yourself familiar with the smell, of fresh dead issue.

And finally this you cannot miss the colour of the issue, if it has turned mouldiest, or greenish or if it is very off colour, then throw it away. Most tissue get slightly different in colour when in storage for a while, and is OK to consume after over cooking.

When in doubt take second opinion of some other person or batter still throw it out.

Now cook it very well, slightly over cook is safer then slightly under cooked, then taste it yourself a little before serving, if it does not taste the way it should, with species or without species then discard it. If you have little children then you must do the tasting before serving them.

Another thing about chicken is when cooked correctly the juices should be clear and not pinkish, if you cut the piece it should not be reddish inside it must be about the same coloured inside or whitish, definitely not red or pink.
