I’ve been learning to cook for the past few months. I’ve spent a lot of time with Julia Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking and I’ve become pretty good at cooking things like hamburgers, omelets, and scallops. But I really need some suggestions on good dishes to cook that are cheap and delicious. I don’t mind eating exclusively vegan meals either. Suggestions are welcome!

First off I also have her wonderful cook book but haven’t had the chance to go through it thoroughly. Now since I am extremely conscious of spending too much money on things that are healthy & prepackaged, I can honestly say that meals will be cheaper & more healthy if prepared by hand. Ok the best advice I have for you is to look at an isle of pre-made meals that are low cal (example lean cuisines) then see what they are made of. One is a fabulous chicken breast that you can make (or buy a bunch frozen to save you time & money perhaps) and then you can kick it up a notch…for example make a tropical fruit salsa on top…chop some tomatoes, pineapple, apples etc that you might find at a local outdoor food market. This is just one meal example of a cheap yet, very flavorful, and healthy (lean protein & fruit are always great) culinary delight! Enjoy :)

Buy a cut of cheap stewing steak and a heap of veggies to make a stew and serve with mashed potatoes.

Ditch all of the fancy stuff and concentrate on getting the basics right.
A well cooked stew will beat any of the fancy dishes that kind of chef makes.

Well Im sorry but you said delicious and there is no such thing as delicious vegan meals. If you go vegan just eat a bag of carrots and then kill yourself. So lets talk about good food thats cheap.

Beans, there are many kinds and there a great source of protein and like rice there begging to have something flavor them so why not use some onion, ham bone and lets say something like a broth oh i know chicken broth. Makes them come alive. You can also fry up some bacon and then just throw the beans and water and salt and pepper and cook that up thats good. Then theres fried potatoes and onions in bacon grease of course. Yes see vegans can eat none of that. Evil bastards.

Rice. Is cheap can be made to taste anyway you like and its best first fried in butter then your liquids can be anything from salted water to broth and wine with bits of chicken or steak some onions, garlic, peas. The sky is the limit and talk about cheap it is.

In summer super markets start getting ready for BBQ season which means that they roll out the pork steaks and ribs. Check for sales you can get a good deal on pork steaks and they are good and good for you. Check out the sides. Potato salad. Thats some potato’s with boiled egg, onions, i use bacon too, sweet pickle relish, miracle whip and mustard. Its good and cheap along with cole slaw thats cabbage chopped with carrots and i just use miracle whip, salt and pepper taste great.

here r a couple of the easiest but best recipes my family just LOVES.

    pre-heat over to 350

put chicken in baking pan and smother with italian dressing for extra flavor sprinkle parmesan cheese on top. YUMMY cover tightly with foil,
throw it in oven for about 2 1/2 hours and u have your self a delicious meal the chicken just falls apart when u touch it with a fork. enjoy

now if u want the same delicious meal that falls apart when u touch it with the fork do all the same steps above but instead of smothering in italian smother with a bottle of bar b que sauce. cover and cook 2 1/2 hours and tah dah dinner is served and your family will be happy
