Bought two packages of meat today because they were on sale. . 4 large boneless chicken breasts at 1.99 a lb. cost me 6.25. I fillet the breasts and I end up with 12 chicken cutlets enough for 4 meals and I poached the small end pieces and made chicken salad. So for 6.25 I have 5 meals for two people. Also bought a 3 lb package of chop meat a 2.49 lb,(7.47). That I made into two meat loafs, a hamburger casserole and 3 hamburgers. That is 7 meals for two adults. End result is 12 dinners for two for a total of 13.72. Sides of Pasta, Potatoes and Rice plus veggies from the farm stands I manage to keep the bill low.
Bake desserts and have eliminated chips and cookies.

Buy items I use on sale and in bulk.

Go to the farmers market (cheap & fresh) every other weekend and stock up on fresh fruits/veges

Cook from scratch with the least amount of prepackaged/preprocessed foods.

Buy at Costco in bulk. 2 whole chickens are still under $7. I get 3 meals out of each chicken (3 adults & 1 toddler). The first is roasted (with roasted root vegetables, yum!), the second is usually chicken and noodles or chicken pot pie and the third (sometimes 4th too) I boil the carcass and make soup/stew.

The main way is to stop buying convenience foods. The extra packaging and processing is horrible for the environment and your pocketbook.

The main problem in America is that no one knows how to cook anymore. We buy frozen meals that we have to heat up and call that cooking.
