Hey[:
I’ve recently purchased a Maytag gas range, and it’s been working amazingly for the past few months.
So got home last night from a trip to Miami, and went to bed since it was late, and the next morning, went to make breakfast. But the burners (all FIVE of them) would not light.
I did, however, smell gas, so there is a flow of gas, and was able to light just one burner (I’m not sure why, the others wouldn’t catch) to make some eggs.
I also don’t hear a little clicking noise like usual, which I usually hear, which is the igniter catching the gas. Later on, I took one of the caps off to look at the igniter, and didn’t see the usual little spark to light the gas. I called Maytag, but they are closed today, and tomorrow since it is Easter.
A little later, I tried cleaning the burners, which did nothing. To see if I could light them again, I tried lighting all of the burners, and to my dismay, could only catch one, a different one than before. I also know someone who stayed over to watch our house self-cleaned the oven while we are gone. The oven still works, and I can see the flame, and cook things in it.***I am cooking for thirteen people tomorrow and need immediate help*** Thanks for your time[:
The model number of my range/oven – MGR8875WS
unkown? – Thanks[:
I cleaned them… and to no avail. And since it’s all five, all at the same time, I doubt it’s them individually. Could it be a fuse since the oven works? Anyway, to your suggestion of lighting them, I have tried, and it rarely works. I’ve tried matches and a lighter, but I’ve only gotten one at a time to work… and sometimes none of them work. I’ve made an appointment for Friday… but that’s a bit late.
Anyway, I will check the fuses, thanks so much for responding[:
For the last time ***TRYING TO LIGHT IT WITH A MATCH DOES NOT WORK***
I ran the oven, off to see if it was moisture. We cleaned it last night, so could be.
And none of them ‘click’ all of them don’t work, and the one I can light might be different every time, but when I do, it operates normally, the flame isn’t discolored or small.
***UPDATE***
We got 3 of the burners to light, and when they did it worked fine. We had to keep them on for hours though…
Also, the flames have frequent yellow flashes, they used to be a pure, plain blue unless the heat was very high.

It is an odd complaint. You should be able to light with a match.

One thing most people don’t realize is with the ignitors either two or all four will spark at the same time. So for the one that clicks if you turn it on and leave in the clicking setting then try turning on one of the others, it might light.

I’m guess is that some moisture got down on the ignitor and it is shorting out the spark. Or the igniter module was damaged by the heat in clean. But in those cases you should be able to light with a match.

Make sure the caps are in the right place and on the correct burners because most spark to the caps these days. If one ignitor is shorted it can affect the others.

I would run the oven for a while to warm the range to make sure any moisture evaporates. My guess, and a common scenario, is that your house sitter used too much water cleaning things up before you returned and the burners will act normally once the moisture in, on, or around the burners evaporates. Similar problems occur when something boils over on the stoves.

    Good luck.

Hope you have a Happy Easter.

You might want to check to see if there are any fuses that may need replacing, You might find them up in the top where the light is. the other thing is that the igniters could be dirty or need replacing.
If those aren’t the causes you could try holding a lit match to the burner when turning them on to get them going so that you can cook your Eeaster meal.
    Hope this helps
    Happy Easter

You should be able to light the burners with a match. If you can’t light it with a match, you have a gas valve problem. When you turn on the gas all the way all four or sometimes five burners will have an igniter spark. It is very rare that you have a gas igniter problem at the same time you have a gas flow problem. There are various ways to check igniter ignition and gas flow, but I wouldn’t recommend you do it because it can become dangerious. I suggest you call a qualified sevice tecknician.
