I would advise against using salted butter for buttercream, the taste of salt is noticeable, due to the very high butter content.
You can definitely use salted butter for baking, as most recipes include salt (I believe sponge cake does).

regarding the spongecake
it won’t work. light versions of any margarine or buttery spread contain a lot of water which is whipped in to fluff em up and give them volume. i tried making cookies with it before i knew any better and they came out like brickets. lol you need a full fat version to bake.
unsalted butter will work for the buttercream.
regular salted butter will be okay for the cake.
cooking however works out fine with these products.

yes you can, it generally tastes better with butter- in the way unhealthy things always tend to taste better than healthy things i guess
– but yea, it should be absolutely fine!
happy baking! xxx

You can use it if you buy it in the sticks and not in the tub. The tub margarine’s have water added to them to keep them soft. The sticks do not and I have used them many times both for baking and for making buttercream.
I have also used salted butter in my recipes. I personally like a little salt in my buttercream as it cuts the overly sweet taste.

You can, but its not very successful and does not taste nice. I tried it , but never again.

You can, but it’s not much healthier than actual butter, so you might as well use the butter.
