@CarolineTurpentine I just use thyme, rosemary and parsley. You could use whatever herbs you like. I don’t use the teabag ones but you certainly could. The whole idea is to add the flavour of the herbs but remove the bouquet before serving the stew.

what do you use in your bouquet garni (sp?), i live in canada and i’ve never seen anyone use them over here. i know some place have pre-made ones that come in a tea bag type sack, so i was wondering if there is there a standard herb set?

It lacked a bit of of body, the guinness adds depth to the stew.

Thanks! Made this last night and it was delicious! Left out the mushrooms (guest doesn’t eat them) and served in with mashed potato. Mmmmmmm…perfect winter food.

@paisleybhoy7 Hey how’d the stew work out without the beer? Was it flavourful enough?

Hi – It looked like a couple of bay leafs and perhaps some thyme, that’s what I’ll be putting in mine along with some fresh parsley

I went to your web site but I couldn’t find the recipe for this stew. I really want to know what herbs you threw in there.

Nice, will give it a lash and will let you know for sure. What part of the country you from? I’m a Leitrim man myself, living in the Big Apple!

Hey man, The beauty about all these recipes is that they’re really only guidelines. Play around with it yourself. Add a tsp. of chili flakes in there for some heat. That’ll definitely kick it up. Let me know how it pans out and you better win the cook off!!

Hi – Thanks for putting this up. I’m having an Irish Stew cookoff at my job in a couple of weeks and I’m doing my best to prepare! I know this is wrong, but any tips on how to give it a bit of a kick spice wise? I always wondered what an Indian style Irish stew would taste like

I remember once trying to make this particular stew here (mostly because my girlfriend is Irish). :p But it came out bad because I misread the directions. This video makes it a heck of a lot more clear to me on how to do this dish. Thanks for uploading it, sir.

It worked great! I also used 1 fresh tomato instead of paste because I didn’t have any, and it was delicious. Lol. Sorry to derail from your original recipe!

Hey, how’s everything down under? You could use bovril as a stock cube. Dilute it with water and use it in place of the beef broth. Don’t make it too strong as bovril is fairly pungent as you know. Give it a go though and let me know how it works.
