I just found this great recipe for creme brulee, but I don’t have a torch, like the one they request in the recipe. Could I use just a typical match or even a lighter as a substitute? Or could I, even, just not use the torch at all? Thanks so much.

Put the dish right under the broiler set on high. Watch it carefully and take it out when the surface has started to brown, which should be 20-30 seconds. Here’s a recipe with the torch/oven suggestions at the bottom:

Hold a kitchen match, lit, in front of your favorite aerosol can pan spray. Spray flame with steady stream.
