For the following recipe would it be ok if I omitted the sugar??? Would it turn out bad??

Oatmeal raisin bars

Ingredients:
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup sugar
4 Tablespoons margarine, soft (i used smart balance, and it worked fine)
3/4 cup apple butter or applesauce (i used applesauce)
2 egg whites
2 Tablespoons skim milk
2 teaspoons vanilla
1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 cups rolled oats, quick or old-fashioned, uncooked
1 cup raisins

Directions:
Heat oven to 350 degrees

Beat together sugars and margarine until blended. Add apple butter, egg whites, milk, and vanilla; beat well.

add combined flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt and mix well. Stir in oats and raisins and mix well.
spread dough in greased 13×9 inch baking pan. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until light brown. (I cooked mine for 22 minutes
and it was done, so you should just check it after 20 minutes) cool before cutting into bars.
recipe makes 32 bars

No, you can’t eliminate all the sugar.
Most recipes can tolerate a 20-30% reduction in sugar with no ill effects.

You can try a sugar substitute, but I have found it changes the texture.

It wouldn’t work. Use Splenda or some other sugar substitute if you’re worried about eating sugar.

No, it will change the recipe too much. Sugar doesn’t just sweeten it does other things in the recipe too.
